PANJIM: A day after Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Goa
police arrested additional collector Sabaji Shetye for accepting bribe, Chief
Minister Manohar Parrikar said that the government servants should not
“compromise their integrity and character”.
Responding to a question, Parrikar said that government will
soon be introducing Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) for those government
servants who are not able to cope up with the expectations of the citizens.

“I don’t want to comment on a particular case. But as far as
I am concerned, the government servant should not compromise on their character
and integrity,” he commented.
“If a government servants do not have integrity and
character in place then he cannot deliver to the people, what is due to
public,” the Chief Minister said.
North Goa Additional Collector was trapped by ACB on Tuesday
while accepting the bribe of Rs 25,000 to give no objection certificate for
storing the explosives.
Chief Minister said that he has already spelled out government
intensions in regards to transparent and corruption free governance in his
Budget speech.
In his 2017-18 Budget speech, Parrikar had said that to
ensure transparent and corruption free governance, government intends to
strengthen the vigilance department by constituting a special squad with full
powers to investigate all types of vigilance cases including those related to
disproportionate assets.
He had even announced about introduction of VRS, where
lethargic government employees would be given opportunity to take voluntary
retirement.
