PANJIM: Goa is all set to promote solar power generation plants at dams as the State government has given the green signal for developing the project on a public private partnership (PPP) basis.

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant chaired the Steering Committee on PPP, which granted its nod for solar power generation at the dams.
Addressing the media persons post meeting, Sawant said that Goa has four dams namely Anjunem, Panchwai, Chapoli and Salaulim.
“If any private party approaches us for solar power generation, we will grant permission. It would be a major boost for the power sector,” said Sawant.
The Steering Committee on PPP had been formed in July to fast track the projects.
Speaking about other projects, the Chief Minister added that the construction of a new Goa Bhavan in Navi Mumbai has been proposed. This also will be done on a PPP model. However, at the moment there are some land related issues and the State government will take up the matter with the concerned Maharashtrian authority.
Also, the long pending International Convention Centre with a seating capacity of 5,000 persons has been proposed at Dona Paula. A consultant for this project is already on Board.
The extension of Panjim bus stand was also discussed at the meeting.
Further, various departments concerned, including Finance, General Administration and Transport made power point presentations regarding these projects.
During the meeting, Sawant instructed the Secretaries and other officials to personally visit each site and examine the matter in order to fast track the projects.
