PANJIM: A day after BJP clinched three assembly seats in the by-poll results to four constituencies, Minster for Art & Culture Govind Gaude said the government is stable with the addition of the three MLAs.
“BJP-led alliance has increased its position in the Goa Legislative Assembly. The coalition government will complete its remaining tenure,” he said on the sidelines of a press conference to announce ‘Prerana Din’ on Friday.
BJP candidates Dayanand Sopte, Subhash Shirodkar and Joshua D’Souza won from their respective constituencies in Mandrem, Mapusa and Shiroda assembly constituencies although the party had to face a setback with the loss of Panjim seat to Congress.
In a sarcastic comment, the minister said that MGP fought election against the candidate of alliance government in Shiroda is still hopeful that they would be adjusted in the cabinet, and as such the party has still not withdrawn support of the government.
“MGP can’t live without power and they have a feeling that its MLA would be accommodated in the government again. But that is not going to happen,” he commented.
With the announcement of results, the strength of BJP is now 17 while Congress comprises of 15 MLAs. Three each from Goa Forward Party and independents form the alliance; whereas one each is from NCP and MGP.
Meanwhile, the Directorate of Tribal Welfare in association with United Tribal Association Alliance (UTAA) will host ‘Prerana Din’ in memory of Late Mangesh Gaonkar and Late Dilip Velip on May 25, 2019 at Ravindra Bhavan, Curchorem. The two had lost their lives during the violence on May 25, 2011 when several thousand tribals clashed with the other group demanding reservation in government jobs, etc.
