VASCO: Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho on Thursday informed that Government was taking all necessary steps to restart mining activities in the State.
Addressing at the Goa Liberation Day function at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, Godinho said, “The government is facing financial crisis at present and added that the state may likely to form a local mineral corporation and restart mining in Goa. Mining-related matter came up in the Apex Court due to other technicalities. Till January end, we will see how the matter progresses in the court and if we don’t get relief then we will think of local mineral corporation and restart mining. Once mining starts everyone dependent on mining will benefit.”
Commenting on the implementation of new Central MV Act in Goa, he said, “I will wait till January end and after the roads are repaired the Act will be implemented in Goa. It is being implemented across the country. The decision will be taken during the cabinet meeting, which will be held in January 2020″.
The minister said, “The Government may invoke Railways Act to acquire land for double tracking. Goa Government may invoke the Railway act because the railways have to expand and it is for the progress of the State and the country. We can’t keep single track running here in the State. Narrow gauge is outdated.”
Godinho said, “The people who are objecting now, should have objected much earlier before the railway line was laid.’
He said, “CAA is for the people who don’t have citizenship. This is for some Indians who were persecuted in other countries. It is a right decision of the Government and it needs some more explanation”.
The minister said, “Taxi business needs to be put on a sound footing. I can’t see having exploitation of tourists. Entire system needs to be streamlined.”
“I will not allow any mafia to hold tourists to ransom. If somebody is conducting business legally then why should they be afraid of streamlining of taxi business” Godinho asked.
“Taxi business has to be regulated and we cannot have exploitation of tourists. If people are doing business legally, they need not have to worry,” he added.
