PANJIM: Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte on Wednesday announced that the government will launch the Goa Taxi App on December 19, on the occasion of Liberation Day. He said that the taximen will own the application and run it.
Khaunte said that all MLAs have agreed to his submissions that we need an app in place and that technology cannot be evaded. “I have been able to convince all the MLAs and ministers on what we want on the taxi front. The Transport Department will be acting as a regulatory body and ensure that everybody is on boarded,” he said.
IT department has already prepared the app along with Transport Department which will be running the app, he said.
Khaunte said that the Tourism Department has been receiving mails of complaints that tourists have been overcharged. “We got a mail that for a distance of Baga to Calangute Rs 4,500 was charged from a tourist. We don’t say that all taximen are bad but a couple of them spoil the name of many,” he said.
