PANJIM: The State Cabinet on Wednesday decided to provide government jobs to 24 children of freedom fighters while, remaining 220 children will be provided jobs as and when vacancies arise.
In the meantime, 220 children will be provided jobs by the Goa Human Resource Development Corporation and absorbed in the government service based as per their qualifications even as the government extended the scheme by another two years.
Speaking to reporters after the Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said, “24 children will be provided government job by this month-end and approximately 220 children will be first given jobs by the Goa HRD Corporation and will be absorbed in government service as per their qualification and as and when vacancies arise within a year”.
Sawant said, “Four per cent jobs will be reserved for children of freedom fighters in every department when the government starts the process of filling vacant posts shortly.”
The scheme for Employment in Government to the children of Freedom Fighters was also extended by another years i.e. from March 1, 2021 to February 28, 2023, he said adding that ‘the government will try to provide jobs to all children of freedom fighters within a year.’
It may be recalled that the children of freedom fighters along with three veteran freedom fighters had resorted to indefinite hunger strike at Panjim demanding government jobs.
