VASCO: Archives and Archaeology Minister Subhash Phal Desai said that the historical Mormugao Fort and Vice Regal Palace heritage sites situated at Sada will be restored and locals would be allowed access.
Phal Dessai said that after inspecting both the historical structures along with Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar and other officials.
Phal Desai assured the MLA and others that both the heritage structures situated near the administrative building of the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) at Headland-Sada, would be restored without breaching the security of the MPA.
After inspecting both the sites, the Minister said that the MPA had allegedly encroached the heritage fort area and has denied access to locals. The fort is the property of the Archaeology Department and it will be restored, preserved and beautified, he said.
The Minister further assured the MLA and other officials that he will speak to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant so as to find a balance way to get access to the fort without breaching the security of the MPA.
Phal Desai said that the Vice Regal palace was built 400 years ago in 1705 but the structure was now in a bad shape due to lack of maintenance after being taken over by the MPA.
