Govt to shut down non-performing State-run corporations

PANJIM: The Goa government has decided to shut down the functioning of non-performing and non-profitable State-run corporations to reduce financial burden. 

Addressing media persons on Friday, Sawant said that the finance department will review the functioning of all the corporations and accordingly the decision will be taken to discontinue with certain non-performing corporations. 

“There are several unnecessary corporations which are non-performing and also not in profit. These corporations are causing financial burden on the government. We would shut them shortly,” Sawant said. 

“Only profit making or self sustaining corporations will be allowed to continue. All corporations have scope for good performance but it is not explored,” he added. 

Sawant was speaking at the program organised by EDC for handing over of the Rs 86.20 lakh dividend cheque to the government. 

There are currently 17 corporations run by the government. 

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister said that all the state departments have been asked to make provisions for Central Sector Schemes in the budget 2023-24. 

“It should not so happen that funds cannot be sought because there is no provision,” he said. 

Sawant said that system to support panchayat and municipality based on their revenue generation will also be put in place in the budget. Funds to schools etc will be streamlined with the help of mobile app operated through private bank, he added.

 The Chief Minister was speaking to media persons after reviewing inspection of various works in the capital city in view of G20 summit to be held on April 19 and 20.
