VASCO: The Villagers’ Action Committee Against Doubling of South Western Railway Zone Tracks Through South Goa Convenor Orville Dourado on Friday demanded that the State government need to take a clear stand on the issue of doubling of railway tracks project.
In a press release, Dourado opined, “It is high time the State Government takes a stand on the issue of doubling of SWR tracks through South Goa as anger and disgust at the irresponsible attitude of the government towards the total destruction of the environment, the houses and the lives of the people of south Goa is increasing by the day.”

He further stated that the statement made by SWR Chief Public Relations Officer E Vijaya stating that the State government should write to the Ministry of Railways regarding any local grievances on land acquisition, based on which the ministry will direct SWR as far as addressing of any issues is concerned, is very pertinent and time bound.
“We elect a government to do development that will improve the standard of living of the people that voted it to power, not to destroy the land and the lives of its people. The Government of Goa must make its stand public vis-à-vis the doubling of the SWR tracks,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Dourado informed the media persons that the committee will be shortly having a press conference to make the public aware of the damages this project will have on Goa and its people.
“However, before the press conference we hope to meet Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, to discuss various issues related to this project,” concluded the convenor.
