Residents of Anjuna along with Local MLA Michael Lobo convened with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday. Hearing upon their grievances Chief minister Sawant assured that the government will intervene in the matter and will approach Supreme Court to help structures that have constructions and business licenses.
The locals, possessing valid permissions from the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCMA) and other relevant authorities, raised distress over the Panchayats’ refusal to grant temporary construction licenses as mandated by the High Court.

Expressing solidarity with the affected residents, MLA Michael Lobo emphasized that the people should not bear the brunt of administrative errors committed by the Secretary of Panchayats, who filed an inaccurate affidavit in court. Lobo further announced the government’s intention to file an intervention petition in the Supreme Court against the High Court order, particularly in favor of those possessing legal licenses.
Highlighting the unfortunate consequence of the Panchayat’s oversight, businesses in Anjuna were shut down in protest against the same on Monday. The government aims to rectify this situation by approaching the Supreme Court to safeguard structures that hold both construction and business licenses. The Chief Minister assured that the government would actively intervene in the matter, seeking justice for those facing penalties due to the erroneous actions of the Secretary of Panchayats.
