Curchorem: A Quepem resident has taken strong objection to Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar for demanding cancellation of the carnival celebration on account of ongoing tension between India and Pakistan and country mourning the deaths of 40 CRPF personnel at Pulwama district at Kashmir recently.Raul Pereira from Quepem whose floats participated in various Carnival float parades in the State has strongly objected to the statement made by Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Chief Girish Chodankar demanding to cancel the Carnival celebration on account of ongoing tension between India and Pakistan and country mourning the deaths of 40 CRPF personnel at Pulwama district at Kashmir recently. “Pereira demanded to know who would bear the loss if the floats are cancelled. “Is it Congress or government would reimburse us the expenditure we made on the floats.” asked Pereira and said when the Calvim tragedy took place where school children lost their lives, the float was cancelled resulting in huge losses.

No need to cancel festivals in
wake of Pulwama: Cabral
Following calls for the cancellation of festivals of Carnival and Great Escapade in wake of Pulwama attack and ensuing Indo-Pak border tension, Power Minister Nilesh Cabral said there was no need for such “reaction.”
“Carnival and other festivals are cultural festival happening every year and so also we are not in a state of war. Infact, we are in commanding position now. So there is no need for such reactions,” Cabral said.
Cabral said that it is sentiments of some Opposition parties should not be taken as sentiments of people Goa.
