GPCC seeks action against Babush

Informs High Command of his anti-party activities

PANJIM: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has taken strong cognizance and has sought action from the party high command against its MLA Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate for his open claim of supporting the BJP in the Panjim by-election.
GPCC spokesperson Sunil Khawtankar said the party has brought Monserrate’s attempts of anti-party activities for the by-polls to the notice of the party high command.
“We have informed the high command. Now it’s for them to decide the future course of action,” he said. The matter is currently before the All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and Goa desk in charge Digvijaya Singh.
The GPCC statement comes a day after Herald reported AICC secretary Dr A Chellakumar saying that action would be initiated against Monserrate – possibly in the form of expulsion from the party – and that Congress does not need anti-party workers.
Chellakumar will also submit his report to the high command. Monserrate, during his recent meeting with Chellakumar in Goa, had said that he would work against the Congress candidate Surendra Furtado to ensure his defeat in the by-poll and will support BJP.
