Panjim: Goenchea Ramponkarancho Ekvott (GRE) President Agnelo Rodrigues congratulated BJP for its resounding victory in the recently conducted Parliamentary elections.
“The nation has reposed its faith upon Bharatiya Janata Party for good governance and bestowed it with the responsibility of nation building under the leadership of Narendra Modi who is being sworn in today (May 26) as the 14th Prime Minister of free India,” stated Rodrigues in a press release.
He further extended his congratulatory greetings to both the elected Goan members of parliament Adv Narendra K Sawaikar and Shripad Y Naik.
Joint General Secretary of GRE and National Fish Worker Forum Secretary Olencio Simoes said: “Even after 66 years of Indian Democratic Parliamentary system of governance, 90% of fishermen are below the poverty line and very little has been done by the Central governments for so long to end their sufferings.”
He further said GRE along with the fishing community organizations, has been raising similar issues and pleading with both the Central and State govts to bring in the much called for change.
“We now have great faith and expectations from this current government. Therefore, we request our Goan MPs to lobby for a separate ‘Ministry for Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare’ and ‘Fisher’s Rights and Protection Act’ on par with ‘Adhivasi’s Protection and Rights Act’,” Olencio said.
Olencio Simoes further said “We are sure that the NDA government will fulfill all our long pending demands in toto.”
