CANACONA: A complaint was filed by the local NGO ‘Goenkar’ at the Canacona Police Station against a hotel over the alleged dumping and burning of the trash in the deep forests off Agonda.
The complaint alleged that the  the eco sensitive forest area had been vandalised by such actions and that the solid waste ranged from plastic to other synthetic waste.
It is pertinent to note that the NGOs have been working hard work to clean the black spots in Canacona and have been educating the locals on cleanliness since last few years.
Alex Carpenter, an environmentalist, who was on his way to release a snake rescued from a residential locality in Agonda, when he noticed smoke in the forest near the Leopard Valley between Agonda and Palolem.
He then shared his observations in a Facebook post that has since gone viral on social media.
Meanwhile, the officials of the hotel claimed that the entire waste is not theirs except a few business cards with the name of their hotel.
“Our in-house investigation revealed that the subcontractor employed by our main contractor dumped some of the waste from our hotel. When it was brought to our notice we took the responsibility and cleaned the entire mound of garbage” said an official of the hotel’s public relations department.
