Group formed for communal harmony

PANJIM: The rising communal tension in the state between Muslim and
Hindu community over Shivaji Jayanti (birth anniversary) celebration would be
naturalized by the group of young leaders under the banner of Bhartiya
Sanskruti Raksha Samiti (BSRS).

Speaking to reporters in Panjim at the press conference
Vice-President of BSRS Shailendra Velingkar said that they will be having a
healthy dialogues with both the communities and would highlight and make
awareness about the secularism of the king Shivaji.

“It is a need of the hour that there should be an awareness
about the work of Shivaji, we will highlight the most important issue of
Shivaji which is secularism among the communities,” Velingkar said.

He (Shivaji) was not only the king of Hindus but he has
worked and created his regime taking all the communities together and we should
know this history first before fighting and destroying peace in the society,
Velingkar mentioned.

“We will meet the leaders and youths of Muslims in Valpoi for
having a fruitful decision without disturbing the social fabric of the society.
We are going to educate the people about the history of the king Shivaji and
what we should take from it,” he said.

Speaking about the Rumdamol-Davorlim Village Panchayat issue
in which the resolution was taken not to display the banners of Shivaji on the
birth anniversary day, Velingkar said that the Sarpanch of misguided and
he  has admitted it. “We have demanded to
withdraw the resolution which was taken by the Panchayat which the Sarpanch has
agreed,” Velingkar informed.

He said that on March 15 Shiv Jayanti would be celebrated in
Davorlim jointly by both Muslim and Hindu communities.

“We are able to settle the issue in a peaceful manner as many
a times the misunderstanding happens due to communication gap which was later
benefited by the politicians by dividing the community,” Velingkar told
reporters.        

He opposed the celebration of birth anniversary of Tipu
Sultan stating it is wrong but said, “we will support to celebrate anniversary
of great people like Abdul Kalam and Abdul Hameed, we can will jointly
celebrate birth anniversary of these leader,” Velingkar mentioned.
