PANJIM: The Goa State Election Commission (GSEC) is likely to announce dates for the ensuing general elections to the municipal councils and Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP). With this, the election Code of Conduct will also come into force.

The GSEC Commissioner C R Garg is slated to hold a press conference on Monday which is when he is expected to announce the dates for 11 municipal councils, CCP, by-elections to different wards of various village panchayats and the election to the Navelim Zilla Panchayat.
In January, the Commission through a circular had announced postponement of these elections for a period of three months, that is, till April or the election date which may be determined by the Commission, under Section 243K and 2432A of the Constitution of India.
The GSEC through its Secretary Melvyn Anthony Vaz, had last week made the submission before the High Court of Bombay at Goa, that elections would be held and completed before March 31.
“Elaborate arrangements are being made by the GSEC so as to ensure that the elections would be held and completed before March 31,” the four-page affidavit stated.
