VASCO: Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation on Monday gave a presentation for the proposed up-gradation and extension of Chicalim Cottage Hospital.
During the presentation, Structwell Designer and Consultant project manager Niraj Arolkar said the 65-year-old structure will be razed to create parking space for about 80 vehicles. “It is not feasible to create basement parking due to high water table in Goa,” he said.
“It will be a 120-bedded hospital and a ground-plus-one structure. The ground floor will have 13 blocks, which will include administrative block, Out Patient Department (OPD), emergency wards, doctors and nurses rooms, dental, homeopathy, gynaecologist clinics and 24-hour pharmacy besides other necessary wards,” he said.
“The first floor will have a lift and a ramp to help the disabled persons. The building will be surrounded with a service road and the roof will be fitted with solar panels to heat water. The first floor will house male and female wards besides three isolation wards, a ward for prisoners, two operation theatres, Intensive Care Units (ICU) and other wards,” added Arolkar.
When asked whether any provision is made for CCTV installation and control room, Arolkar replied in the negative. However, GSIDC Deputy Manager Ravati Parab said the new hospital will not be equipped with CCTV cameras and it is not taken into consideration.
Arolkar informed that the total area is 11,000 square metres and the built-up area of the hospital is 6,200 square metres with total cost of Rs 23. 65 crore and the hospital will be completed within 18 months.
When sought to know the starting and competition date, Arolkar and GSIDC officials failed to give any satisfactory replies. Sources informed that
the government will lay the foundation stone for the construction of proposed Chicalim Cottage Hospital on
