PANJIM: The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation has tendered the work to convert the rarely used 62 mts pedestrian subway opposite the Goa Medical College and Hospital into a Motorable Subway.
The underground walkway to help people cross the highway which was supposed to have shops on either side was unused and lying in a derelict condition right from the time it was constructed at a cost of Rs 7 crore.
According to tender details, the time for completion including monsoon is two months and it will be done at a cost of Rs 9,05,63,447.
The present subway was inaugurated in 2009 along with Goa Dental College and hospital hostel and, 450-bedded ward block at the Goa medical college
The total length of the subway that runs under the national highway 17 at Bambolim is 62 mtr and the width is 20 mtr.
The subway consists of three staircases and three ramps for entry and exit, each ramp is 7 mtr wide and 26 mtr long.
The ramp is followed by a 12 mtr passage and 13 mtr long staircase on the other end.
The subway also had 26 commercial shops of approximately 9 sqm each.
