VASCO: ‘ICGS SHOOR’, the second offshore patrol vessel (OPV) designed and built by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), was delivered to the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) recently, and one-and-a-half months ahead of schedule.
This state-of-the-art OPV is the second of six OPVs being built by GSL for the Coast Guard. It will be the second biggest ship in the Coast Guard fleet, and has registered excellent performance at sea during trials.
GSL Chief Managing Director (CMD) Rear Admiral Shekhar Mital (retired) handed over this advanced new generation OPV to DIG Coast Guard, Surendra Singh Dasila, in the presence of DIG T P Sadanandan and other senior coast guard officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Mital said, “The delivery of the second OPV ahead of schedule is a landmark event for GSL. Delivery of the ship within a year of its launch, as was committed at the time of the launch, is reflective of yard’s shipbuilding capabilities, commitment and validation of our execution skills.”
He further said, “The OPV being handed over to ICG speaks of GSL’s commitment to the Make in India initiative of the Government of India, and yet more proof of successful journey towards timely execution of the project by a proud DPSU Shipyard, in perfect synergy with the Coast Guard. Manifestation of this initiative will be seen more and more from GSL in the times to come.”
