PANJIM: Goa Su-Raj Party has alleged that the Ministry of Education & Directorate of Technical Education has not been fair and flouted rules in the case of admission of Charmaine Melrose Almeida, an MBBS candidate under the Goan NRI category.
In the first Degree Eligibility List made public by the DTE, Charmaine Melrose Almeida was eligible in two categories as an NRI and Goan Native (Goan Native being one whose parent/grand parent is born in Goa). Another candidate Lakshmi Sanjaykumar Nikam in the Degree Eligibility List is shown only as an NRI.
However in the Final Degree Admission Merit List, Charmaine Melrose Almeida is placed third, while Lakshmi Sanjaykumar Nikam is placed second in the two available seat-quota for the NRI-Goan native, thereby now having to opt for a Non-MBBS course, the party alleged.
The party has written to Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister. A press note by the party and signed by Savio Rodrigues alleges that the girl’s family were given a cold shoulder by the Deputy CM.
They also say that when party representatives and the family along with girl met with the Director of Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) they were told that her grandmother (Lakshimi Nikam) was of Goan origin. And when questioned as to why it does not appear on the Degree Eligibility List, he answered saying that sometimes parents make errors and we guide them to fill the application form even after the Degree Eligibility List is out.
Su-Raj party alleged that according to the Rules of Admission in the prospectus Section 4.09 no change can be made after last date of submission of application form.
The Degree Eligibility List-2014-15 was made public by the Directorate of Technical Education on June 7, 2014, whereby we knew our status in the merit list and under NRI –  Goan Native sub category. On this Degree Eligibility List Candidate number 826 – Lakshmi Sanjaykumar Nikam, was not shown as NRI – Goan.
The Provisional/ Final merit list that came out on the June 13/14 surprisingly showed the candidate 826 in second position and as Goan in sub-category.
