PANJIM: In a major boost to the government’s garbage management plans, Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) on Tuesday granted Consent to Operate to the proposed enhancement of existing capacity of the solid waste management facility (SWMF) at Saligao from 100 tonnes per day (TPD) to 250 TPD and also granted consent to the upcoming facility at Cacora in South Goa.
Goa State Pollution Control Board chairman Ganesh Shetgaonkar said Goa solid waste management corporation had applied before the Board for grant of consent to operate to expansion facility at Saligao and the new waste treatment plant at Cacora. “Board has approved both the applications,” he said.
The State-of-the art facility at Saligao is currently handling 120-130 tonnes of garbage per day. The facility is also generating electricity for captive use and sells surplus power to the State power grid.
On the other hand, the facility at Cacora is yet to take shape. The main objective of the project is to process and dispose waste lying at the existing MSW dumpsites site and to cater to the present and future waste generated in South Goa.
