PANJIM: The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has turned to the Goa Institute of Management, to solve the vexed and menacing garbage problem in coastal panchayats by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the institute.
Under the MoU 18 students of the institute will work towards a workable garbage management system in these panchayats.
The Board has identified three beaches in South Goa-Varca, Benaulim and one in North – Calangute, for carrying out the research.

GSPCB chairman Jose Manual Noronha said that the 18 students have been divided into three teams and they will visit the coastal panchayats to provide a solution for garbage menace.
GIM students will be doing internship for one year with GSPCB at the end of which a report would be submitted.
The MoU has been signed to identify solid waste management and sanitation practices in a selected community. It will also examine the long and short term consequences of these practices. GIM team would be also conducting awareness campaigns at schools.
