MARGAO: The Saligao Garbage Treatment Plant has been issued a show cause notice by the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB).
The plant has a capacity of processing 100 tonnes but 150 trucks of two tonnes capacity of garbage are unloaded into the facility every day.
“Although the plant was supposed to cater to Calangute and Saligao, garbage from as far as Pernem is being loaded at the plant”, stated Tulio D’Souza.
Tulio informed that 50,000 tonnes of old garbage is lying at the site without being treated and recently there is around 30,000 tonnes of garbage that has been mysteriously dumped outside the site.
He demanded that the government stop overloading the plant with garbage and ensure that it doesn’t cause a nuisance for people living around the plant.
