PANJIM: With proliferation of illegal spas, massage parlours and salons, the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has tightened the noose by making No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from Health Department and local bodies compulsory for obtaining consent to operate from the Board.
The Board has made certain documents compulsory for these units while applying for consent under Air and Water act at its 114th meeting held on Tuesday. The documents include ownership document, name and address of the owner, NOC from health and local bodies, disposal of waste methods and if it is an ayurvedic spa then it should have qualified ayurvedic doctors.
Speaking to media, GSPCB Chairman Jose Manual Noronha said that following National Green Tribunal order it is mandatory for all units including spa, saloons and massage parlours to obtain consent from the board.” Considering massive illegal operations we decided to impose certain conditions for applying for consent,” he said.
Noronha said that the applications would be placed before the technical advisory committee for recommendation for approval and rejection. The last date for applying is December 31, 2014 with waiver of late fees.
Noronha said that according to Board record there are 90 such units operational in the State. “We have already issued stop order to 40 units in North Goa while another 50 have been issued notices in the South,” he said, adding that units will have to compulsorily apply for consent.
