PANJIM: The resumption of full-fledged economic activity provided a major lift to Goa’s economy as the Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection witnessed a 33 per cent increase in September, compared to the same period last year.

As per data released by the Union Finance Ministry, Goa’s GST collection stood at Rs 319 crore in September this year, as against Rs 240 crore in 2020.
Since July, when the government began to ease COVID-19 restrictions, the State’s GST collection has witnessed a jump. The month with Rs 303 crore revenue, saw, an 18 per cent rise in GST collection compared to July 2020.
The GST collection for August stood at Rs 285 crore as against Rs 213 crore last year, which is a jump of 34 per cent.
Before that in April, the GST collection was at Rs 32 crore, while May saw revenue increasing to Rs 83.25 crore.
Overall, India’s GST collection remained above the Rs 1-lakh-crore mark for third straight month in September at over Rs 1.17 lakh crore, the Finance Ministry said on Friday. The revenue for the month of September 2021, was 23 per cent higher than the GST revenue in September 2020.
