MARGAO: Shadow Council for Margao (SCM) on Wednesday slammed the authorities including Margao MLA Digamber Kamat for delaying the handover of the Lohia Maidan, thereby missing the deadline of March 15.
It may be recalled that Goa State Urban Development Authority (GSUDA) was supposed to hand over the renovated Lohia Maidan on Wednesday, but SCM lamented that this delay means the historic ground is still not open for public purpose.
“We have also received information that desperate attempts of framing rules for restricting the use of the Lohia Maidan are being framed, which will prevent public protests and meetings against the government. Any such moves to enact such rules shall be seriously dealt with, said SCM convenor Savio Coutinho.
SCM gave an Ultimatum of 15 days for the handing over of the Lohia Maidan and allotment for public meetings etc, failure of which, the citizens shall organize an inauguration of the renovated Lohia Maidan.
“We see the inordinate delay in completion of the Lohia Maidan as a game plan to prevent public meetings and other protests from being held there. With several frauds and misdeeds various departments are indulged into, our representatives and the government are afraid that this sacred venue will once again vibrate with a new Revolution against the government, and this is the sole reason why the Lohia Maidan completion and handover is postponed again and again”, Coutinho added.
Coutinho alleged that those who fear public gatherings and protests against the ills of theirs are behind the delay in handover.
