GTDC denies locals opposing paragliding at Mandrem

PANJIM: The Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) has refuted a Herald report that locals oppose noisy paragliding in Mandrem that it recently launched.

Denying that locals oppose noisy paragliding at Mandrem, the GTDC has stated that there was unnecessary din from some vested interests over motorized paragliding at Mandrem which, it said, appeared to be driven purely by ignorance. The GTDC has clarified that motorized paragliding activity is currently operational for only two hours between 4 pm and 6 pm and not from 8.30 am to 6.30 pm as stated in the report. Further flying is restricted over the sea and not on land to minimize noise levels, it said. The GTDC further clarified that no motorized paragliding flights are conducted after sunset and that the operators have the requisite permissions which includes those from the Department of Tourism, ATC, District Administration, Goa police and other local permissions.
The GTDC has categorically denied out that Mandrem beach has no turtle nesting sites as per reports of the Forest Department.
