PANJIM: The Goa Tourism Development Corporation has floated tenders for massive 500 seater passenger sunset cruise vessel to operate in River Mandovi.

While the plan was mooted more than three months ago, the Corporation has recently invited bids from reputed ship building companies to design and construct the vessel.

GTDC Chairman Nilesh Cabral said, “Presently we have a cruise vessel with a capacity for 238 passengers.”

The new vessel will have board rooms for corporate conferences.

“During the day the vessel can be used for conferences,” said Cabral disclosing that all facilities for conducting conferences will be made available on board.

Cabral said  that  the new  cruise boat  will be the biggest  in  River Mandovi  as the present capacity  of the  other vessels operating in the river is not more than 500.

He said that at a time when the tourism ministry is keen on promoting river cruise tourism, GTDC would like to venture into it in a big way. “We hope to get the new vessel by September before the next season begins,” he said.
