GTDC seeks transfer of project cell from tourism department

The Goa Tourism Development Corporation has requested the tourism ministry to transfer its project cell to the corporation for effective monitoring and execution of tourism related works in the State.

PANJIM: The Goa Tourism Development Corporation has requested the tourism ministry to transfer its project cell to the corporation for effective monitoring and execution of tourism related works in the State.

The GTDC Chairman Nilesh Cabral told Herald that presently the project cell is with the tourism department and the latter has agreed to hand over the cell to the corporation.

“Under GTDC the project cell will facilitate fast tracking of works undertaken by the corporation and the department,” explained Cabral adding that it would get more technical personnel on

Deputation to augment the staff strength: Cabral further explained that the project cell will also help fast track various maintenance works through the corporation.

He cited an example of the maintenance of high mast lamps which needs immediate repairs but is subject to tedious procedures and formalities.

This task if entrusted to the corporation would henceforth be expedited by the corporation through the cell.

He further added that various other maintenance works would be monitored by the corporation through the GTDC residencies who have technical staff on the job.

The tourism ministry which plans to have beach infrastructure in place through toilets and changing rooms within the next 2 years at various beach belts would also be maintained by the corporation, said Cabral.
