GU asked to complete project on Western region

PANJIM, JULY 30 A report of the Ad Hoc Committee on Finance has observed the Goa University in spite of funds available had made no efforts to complete a project on 'plant and fungus biodiversities inventory and conservation efforts for the western region of Goa.'

A report of the Ad Hoc Committee on Finance has observed the Goa University in spite of funds available had made no efforts to complete a project on ‘plant and fungus biodiversities inventory and conservation efforts for the western region of Goa.’
The report notes the committee was pained to note in spite of funds available under the Western Ghats Development Programme (WGDP) till date only preliminary report has been submitted. “The varsity has made no serious efforts to submit the final report,” it mentioned and added, “Taking into consideration the importance of the project it should have been completed within the scheduled time.” 
The committee strongly recommended to the university to come out with the final report and intimate it on the progress achieved in the matter.
Further, as specified in the ad hoc committee report, GU has submitted terminal report of phase I of the project.
It noted that Phase II of the project had been approved by the Planning Commission and the same was in progress. The work of terminal consolidated project report (TCRP) of Phase II is in initial stage, the committee informed. 
The coordination of implementing the Watershed Development Programme schemes under WGDP has been entrusted to the State Level Watershed Committee under chairmanship of the Chief Secretary.    
The ad hoc committee in its report mentioned the actual expenditure incurred under hill area (Western Ghats) has been nil for the years 2008-09 and 2009-10. The actual total plan allocation during these years was Rs 20 lakh.
