MARGAO: Former sarpanch of Guirdolim, Milagres Gonsalves joined the Aam Aadmi Party and will probably be the party candidate from Cuncolim constituency in the Assembly elections due in 2022. Milagres has been elected for three consecutive terms as a member of the Guirdolim panchayat.
“I always wanted to do something for the common man and the weaker section and that is why I am joining AAP because I am impressed with the manner in which Arvind Kejriwal has reduced the cost of living of the people in Delhi,” he said.
Milagres, who is a well known tiatrist under the name Milagres de Chandor, said he was amazed when Arvind Kejriwal set up a Konkani Akademi in Delhi. “If he could set up the institute for Konkani in Delhi imagine what he will be able to do for Konkani in Goa,” he said adding that it was at that moment that he decided to join AAP.
However, in the past Milagres was a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and had even contested the Assembly elections as its candidate from Cuncolim constituency.
