PONDA: Although the pre-monsoon rain showers on Saturday provided relief from the scorching heat, the heavy wind accompanying it felled several trees, causing damage to houses in various parts of Ponda. Ponda residents also faced hardship due to power outages in many parts of the taluka, which was restored around midnight. The outage occurred due to a fault generated at the power feeder at Curti Sub Station, leaving Ponda residents in darkness.
Ponda Fire Personnel received around 9 calls reporting trees falling on houses and roads. At Zuvarwada-Marcel, the house of Mohan Naik and Suresh Naik was damaged due to a fallen mango tree. Additionally, a road blockade occurred at Khandepar after a tree fell on the road. In Borim, a house suffered damage after a coconut tree fell on its roof, while another house was damaged after a branch fell on it. Branches of trees also fell on parked vehicles, including cars near GEC premises in Farmagudi.

Due to ongoing road development works, water logging occurred at various places, with muddy water flowing on roads, causing hardship for vehicles to find ways through it. At Khandepar, a huge mud dump was created by the service road, and due to heavy winds, a massive slush storm was witnessed at Opa-Khandepar Junction, with mud spread everywhere. Locals demanded the clearing of the mud, citing potential risks to the community, said Sandeep Parkar.
