PANJIM: Even as Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar flew to New Delhi from Bangalore for dinner with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the former Rural Development minister Francisco (Mickky) Pacheco’s star continued to wane, with the Governor Mridula Sinha accepting his
resignation, a day after he tendered his resignation
from the State cabinet, Chief Minister’s Office
sources said.
With Pacheco’s resignation the size of the cabinet has
fallen to 11, creating a vacancy.
The Rural Development, Archives and Archaeology
minister leaves after a short stint. He was inducted
into the State cabinet in November last year, after
Manohar Parrikar was elevated as Defence Minister.
Pacheco is a Goa Vikas Party MLA representing Nuvem
constituency.
The minister whose fate was sealed after the Supreme
Court dismissed his special leave petition seeking to
quash the conviction order by Goa Bench of Bombay High
Court for slapping a government servant on duty has
filed a revision petition in the apex court in a bid
to stave off his incarceration in jail. He has to
serve six months.
The Supreme Court bench comprising Justices F M I
Kalifulla and Shiva Kirti Singh had last week
dismissed the special leave petition of Pacheco
against the July 17, 2014 High Court verdict.
An FIR was lodged on July 15, 2006 by Kapil Natekar,
Electrical Department junior engineer, against then
minister Pacheco, alleging that he was abused and
slapped by the minister in his chamber.
