Guv accepts Mickky’s resignation

PANJIM: Even as Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar flew to New Delhi from Bangalore for dinner with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the former Rural Development minister Francisco (Mickky) Pacheco’s star continued to wane, with the Governor Mridula Sinha accepting his 
resignation, a day after he tendered his resignation 
from the State cabinet, Chief Minister’s Office 
sources said.
With Pacheco’s resignation the size of the cabinet has 
fallen to 11, creating a vacancy.
The Rural Development, Archives and Archaeology 
minister leaves after a short stint. He was inducted 
into the State cabinet in November last year, after 
Manohar Parrikar was elevated as Defence Minister.
Pacheco is a Goa Vikas Party MLA representing Nuvem 
constituency.
The minister whose fate was sealed after the Supreme 
Court dismissed his special leave petition seeking to 
quash the conviction order by Goa Bench of Bombay High 
Court for slapping a government servant on duty has 
filed a revision petition in the apex court in a bid 
to stave off his incarceration in jail. He has to 
serve six months. 
The Supreme Court bench comprising Justices F M I 
Kalifulla and Shiva Kirti Singh had last week 
dismissed the special leave petition of Pacheco 
against the July 17, 2014 High Court verdict.
An FIR was lodged on July 15, 2006 by Kapil Natekar, 
Electrical Department junior engineer, against then 
minister Pacheco, alleging that he was abused and 
slapped by the minister in his chamber.
