MARGAO: Salcete-based regional parties – Goa Vikas Party and the United Goans Democratic Party – are yet to unveil their plans vis-a-vis the April 12 Lok Sabha poll, with GVP supremo Mickky Pacheco saying his party will take a final call upon finalisation of candidates by the Congress Party.
While the UGDP Secretary General Adv Anacleto Viegas was away in Mumbai on Friday, the GVP supremo Mickky Pacheo said his party has not yet taken any decision on fielding candidates for the two Lok Sabha seats. Though the party leadership was expected to meet this week and take a final call on fielding or supporting candidates in the coming poll, Mickky said on Friday that the party would now meet next week to take stock of the situation.
“I am watching the developments unfolding in the national parties. Let the Congress announce its candidate for the two seats and we will take a call accordingly,” he said.
Incidentally, Mickky was initially not opposed to contesting the ensuing poll from South Goa, but on certain conditions, depending on the candidate of the Congress party. In fact, the GVP was exploring the possibility of fielding a candidate in North Goa as well, but has not taken any decision so far.
Sources said the GVP, which has two MLAs in the Legislative Assembly, is watching the emerging developments in the Congress Party following the deadlock over the candidature for South Goa.
Meanwhile, Mickky said that his fleet of vehicles continues to be attached, while his bank accounts lay frozen following the raid by I-T sleuths last month. “The IT raid will not deter me nor my party to take a firm decision on the coming election,” he added.
Meanwhile, UGDP Secretary General Adv Anacleto Viegas said the party will take a final call on its stand vis-a-vis the coming poll, even as party spokesman and senior vice-president Radharao Gracias indicated that the party may not field a candidate for the two seats.
