MAPUSA: Hanumant Naik was on Thursday elected unopposed as Assagao sarpanch.
The election was held after the former sarpanch tendered his resignation from the post to make way for another member in the seven-member body.
Hanumant was elected unopposed as lone nomination was received by the Returning Officer, Manohar Parwar.
Six panch members namely Hanumant Naik, Srisagar Naik, Ria Naik, Kartik Kelkar, Joaquim Quadros and Josephine D’Souza were present. However the outgoing sarpanch Jalinder Gaonkar remained absent.
Addressing media persons, Hanumant said he would work for the development of the village and find a solution to the water and electricity problems faced by the villagers.
