MARGAO, MARCH 20
In a surprise development, AICC observer B K Hari Prasad is learnt to have air dashed to Goa today and had discussions with top Congress leaders at a city hotel here this evening.
The meeting assumes importance as it comes on the eve of the crucial meeting of the Coordination committee of the Congress and NCP scheduled in Mumbai on Sunday.
Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, GPCC President Subhash Shirodkar, PWD Minister Churchill Alemao, Urban Development Minister Joaquim Alemao and GPCC General Secretary Vijay Sardessai had a meeting with Hari Prasad and discussed the latest political developments in the State. Hari Prasad along with the chief minister and GPCC president would attend tomorrow’s coordination committee meeting in Mumbai.
The presence of Sardessai assumes significance given his close rapport with Taleigao MLA and Education Minister Babush Monseratte, a member of the G-7.
The AICC observer is believed to have told the State leaders that any decision on the continuance of the Congress-NCP alliance would be taken by the High Commands of the two parties. He reportedly said this in reply to a suggestion made by a leader that it’s better to dissolve the Assembly and go for fresh election instead of being pressurized and blackmailed by the coalition partners time and again.
Incidentally, Hari Prasad is learnt to have told the Congress leaders to exercise restraint and not to go to media and make statements on the political developments so as not to aggravate the prevailing situation. After a marathon meeting with the Congress leaders, Hari Prasad is learnt to have left the State this evening.
