PONDA: Due to heavy rains in many parts of Ponda taluka, the paddy crop that was ready for harvesting at Marcaim and Kundaim was destroyed resulting in huge loss for the farmers.
The affected farmers have demanded that the government conduct a survey of the destroyed crop and provide compensation.
Marcaim farmer Ramakanat Naik said, “We were hoping that the rain would subsidise and we will harvest the crop, but the rains ruined our plans.”
Some farmers at Borim and Shiroda harvested the paddy mechanically, but many could not do so due to incessant rains.
