“You have to believe and have confidence in police,” was the one statement reply by Director General of Police to the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, on Monday.
A delegation of nine members representing as many as 150 saffron men on the streets, today evening demanded the police to take cognizance of allegations made by Lucky Farmhouse, jilted girlfriend of the alleged drug peddler Yaniv Benaim aka Atala.
This was yet another step pointing out a total negligence by the Congress-led government, BJYM members came down on streets.
Reiterating its main party’s demand, the youth further demanded to hand over the much-touted police-politician-drug nexus probe to an independent agency.
The demands included, “The police-drug peddlers-politician nexus should be thoroughly probed to eliminate for good the menace of drugs from the Goan soil and thorough investigations be held into the allegations made by Lucky. That, investigation be handed over to an independent investigating agency like CBI.”
Lucky had alleged Roy Naik, son of the Home Minister Ravi Naik was also involved in the drug trade and that he often visited Atala’s house in Anjuna. In an interview to local media, Lucky claimed she had evidence to prove that some policemen visited Atala who bribed them on several occasions.
Earlier, the BJYM held a peaceful morcha at about 4:15 pm near Azad Maidan after which they had a brief meeting to later meet the DGP. Adequate number of police personnel from Panjim, Old Goa and Agassaim and a platoon of lady Goa Reserve Police were deployed till the BJP crowd dispersed after 5:30 pm.
The two-page memorandum expressed apprehensions on the police investigation alleging the investigating officer tried to botch up the probe to ‘please his masters’. The officer’s name was however not mentioned in the copy.
“…It is extremely disappointing and disheartening to note the allegation of politicians also being actively involved in the drugs and related trade here in Goa… Of late the revelations by Lucky have been the centre focus of the case against the six policemen and two important drug dealers (Atala and Dudu),” read the copy signed by its 10 BJYM.
With the police probing the nexus case against its own tainted men will fabricate the case results, BJYM claimed this was one of the reasons it was demanding to hand over the case to an independent agency like CBI.
