PONDA: Civil Supplies Minister Govind Gaude has urged the people not to panic about not getting essential commodities, as, he said, his department has stock of essential commodities for four months.

He said that his department would soon begin home delivery of rice, wheat, sugar, salt and other essential food items through the fair price shops.

He said that the panchas and sarpanchas have been roped in to home deliver the commodities. Besides, he said, every MLA will rope in 20 volunteers to home deliver the essential commodities.

“The system will be in place in the next two days. I urge the people not to come out homes. Similarly, the Horticulture Department will procure vegetables from Belgaum on Monday and make home delivery of the same. Further, stockists and whole sellers are urged to place orders for essential commodities from neighbouring States and the government will cooperate them,” he said.

He said that instructions have been fair price shops to collect their respective quota and home delivery the same through volunteers.

“However, the public will not be allowed to come to the shops,” he emphasised.

The minister informed that he had a meeting with wholesalers and stockists in Ponda taluka, wherein he instructed them to place order for grocery suppliers in neighbouring States and the government would facilitate the same.

“No shop will remain open. After witnessing heavy rush of people at grocery shops during the relaxation period, the government took a decision to shut all the shops and make home deliveries of essential commodities,” the minister said.

He decried that “people are more bothered about grocery items than a collective fight against COVID-19.”
