PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has admitted a plea filed by Prabhav Naik challenging the OBC reservation in Ward No 22 of Margao Municipal Council. The court has however not granted interim relief while adjourning the matter for hearing in June 2021.
Ward No 22 candidate Prabhav Naik, in the petition said, he has lost his chance to contest as the ward is now reserved for OBC due to incorrect reservation by the Directorate of Municipal Administration.
He stated that only 150 OBC voters are in this ward of 2,400-odd voters.
In January this year, BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade had said Naik, grandson of former Margao MLA and Minister (late) Babu Naik, could be a candidate at the ensuing municipal elections. Naik along with 14 others had joined the BJP when Tanavade made the statement.
In another setback for Vibrant Margao panel led by BJP’s Damu Naik, the petition filed by his close aide challenging OBC reservation has been dismissed by the High Court.
The High Court on Wednesday had dismissed two other petitions challenging reservation in Mapusa.
