PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Wednesday gave former Arambol sarpanch Bernard Fernandes time till Monday, January 29 to tell if he is ready to demolish the ground-plus-three structure constructed by him. Based on his statement, Court will decide future course of action.
Fernandes told the Court that the structure was built by his father and uncle. The counsel of the owner of the adjacent illegal hotel building which brought the issue of illegal structure at Girkarwado-Arambol in limelight told the Court that he had already demolished third floor of his building as per the Court order. However, the State government will verify the claim of the hotel owner and submit a report to the Court.

During the hearing of PIL suo motu and a writ petition filed by Ravi Harmalkar and another, the State government told the Court that 49 of the 64 illegal structures in NDZ at Girkarwado-Arambol have been sealed and show cause notices will be issued to the remaining structures within next 15 days.
The Court asked the authorities to refrain from desealing the structures without permission. The GCZMA inspection report has pointed to more illegal structures in the area. The Court asked the GSPCB to take appropriate steps as far as commercial activities are concerned.
