PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Monday asked State government to submit its status report on the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matka nexus in the State.
Social activist Kashinath Shetye submitted a petition before the High Court of Bombay at Goa on Monday stating that the government has not formed the Special Investigation Team, as was assured in the HC and as per the order of the bench dated July 19, 2017.
Shetye said that he has submitted in his petition that the assurance of the State is only on paper, and also informed the court that matka is still operating in the State with hafta paid to the Police.
The High Court of Bombay at Goa in its order of July 19, 2017 had directed the government to constitute an SIT to prove matka gambling.
Meanwhile, another activist has submitted to the High Court of Bombay at Goa a CD containing video footage, which exposes the police of accepting bribes to allow matka activities in the State.
Mukundraj Govind Mudras, supporting Shetye’s claim that Police are in connivance with matka dealers submitted to the High Court of Bombay at Goa video footage of a matka bookie admitting that they pay hafta to the police and operate the trade.
Mudras submitted the evidence before the High Court of Bombay at Goa through an affidavit and said the video footage was recorded on September 4 and 7, 2017.
In the video, a matka bookie claims that he gives hafta of Rs 100 a day to a police outpost to run matka gambling. The CD also contains a sting video of another matka agent from Borda.
