MARGAO: Green Goa Foundation has finally knocked the doors of the High Court to monitor police investigation in Cuncolim Municipal Council scam of Rs 3.79 crore.
Green Goa Foundation has filed a writ petition against the State of Goa, the Superintendent of Police (ACB) and Director of Vigilance seeking directions from the High Court to monitor the investigation and direct suspension of the guilty officials in the recent scam of over Rs 3.79 crore in the Cuncolim Municipal Council that had been unearthed by the special audit team constituted for the purpose.
“The audit report shows that unauthorised payments were made in procurement of dustbins and bio-culture powder and quotations invited without open tender, wherein payments were made by vouchers which were neither signed by the chief officer nor the chairperson,” GGF Chairman Raison Almeida said.
The petition has also disclosed that the Green Goa Foundation has approached the chief minister, the home secretary, director of vigilance and the SP ACB to look into the matter, which, they claim, was never taken seriously.
The Green Goa Foundation has pointed out in the petition that not a single officer of the Cuncolim Municipal Council has been arrested pending investigation, nor has any officer been suspended or any disciplinary action has been taken.
The Green Goa Foundation has pointed out that the officers responsible are capable of tampering with the evidence and there is an urgent need to have a quick and proper investigation to ensure that the persons responsible are brought to task.
The petition also raises issues about whether the police officials are dragging their feet in the investigation as no suspects have been named and no arrests have been made till date.
