PANJIM/MAPUSA: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has directed the North Administrator of Comunidade to explain the incident when tension during the just concluded election at Serula Comunidade erupted.
The election to the Managing Committee on Sunday witnessed drama when four persons climbed onto the Dais after Alex D’Souza was declared elected as president and Joseph Pinto as the substitute. The proceedings were disrupted when the group of people overturned the tables and chairs despite presence of police, who were deployed to maintain law and order. The election to the posts of attorney, treasurer and their substitutes could not be held after Bardez mamlatdar declared its postponement owing to the high voltage drama.
The High Court during the last hearing had directed to hold election on January 27. It has now adjourned the matter to February 5.
On Sunday a section of the people had created a ruckus in the Serula comunidade hall following the election of Alex D’Souza as president due to which the polls to the managing committee of the comunidade had to be postponed.
After Alex D’Souza was declared as the President and Joseph Pinto as his substitute few people from the gathering disrupted the proceedings. The elected president had filed his nomination against Alex Pereira, who was supported by a former attorney. As the new president being elected, the former attorney’s kin created a ruckus in the hall. Despite the presence of police personnel, they began overturning the tables and chairs.
The election to the posts of attorney, treasurers and their substitutes could not go on as the presiding officer Laxmikant Kuttikar postponed the polls, stating that he would file his report before the High Court of Bombay at Goa.
