Health Min to chair meet today on Nipah virus

PANJIM: Amidst the panic following the Nipah virus outbreak in Kerala, the Goa government will hold a meeting of all concerned, including doctors, on Wednesday to ensure the State is safe from the deadly infection. Health Minister Vishwajit Rane is scheduled to chair the meeting though there is no alert yet issued in the State.

PANJIM: Amidst the panic following the Nipah virus outbreak in Kerala, the Goa government will hold a meeting of all concerned, including doctors, on Wednesday to ensure the State is safe from the deadly infection. Health Minister Vishwajit Rane is scheduled to chair the meeting though there is no alert yet issued in the State.
“I will hold a meeting tomorrow (Wednesday) and see what needs to be done. We will also take guidelines from the Centre,” the minister said asking people not to panic.  Health Department has confirmed that Goa has not received any alert yet and neither any key instruction from the Central government.
It is learnt that the department is in constant touch with its counterpart in Kerala to ascertain the impact and its spread. Hospitals have been instructed to be on their toes and take precautionary measures. The State borders are also being watched for passengers entering Goa from Kerala.
As per records, the outbreak of Nipah virus has claimed 10 lives in Kerala while one person is undergoing treatment and eight are under observation. The Centre on Monday had rushed a high level team from the National Centre for Disease Control, to Kerala. There is no vaccine available against the virus.
