The JMFC is hearing a petition filed by lawyer activist Aires Rodrigues accusing Parrikar of cheating the State when he was chairman of Goa Industrial Development Corporation, a couple of years ago.
North SP Umesh Gaonkar sought time to file the reply.
Rodrigues had moved the court seeking intervention after Panjim police failed to register an FIR in his complaint that was supported by documents revealing that GIDC had allotted an area of 67,457.50 sq mts at Shiroda to Miditech Pvt Ltd on June 29, 2006 for which the company paid Rs 1.85 crore in seven instalments from October 31, 2006 to February 1, 2012.
The company, owned by the sons of then Rajasthan Governor Margaret Alva had moved an application in March 2012 to surrender the land. “On August 27, 2012, Parrikar directed that only 1 percent be deducted despite the rules requiring that 5 percent be deducted as surrender charges. This has caused a tremendous loss to the State exchequer,” the petitioner said.
