The India Me teorological Depart ment (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Goa till July 25, forecasting heavy rainfall at isolated places and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph across North and South Goa. According to the IMD’s daily weather bulletin, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds is like ly at a few places in both districts over the next two days.
No weather alerts have been issued from July 26 on wards, indicating a possible easing of conditions. The forecast comes as Goa continues to record a signif icant rainfall deficit despite intermittent spells of heavy rain. Between June 1 and July 23, the state received an av erage of 1,111.7 mm of rainfall against the normal 1,699 mm, registering a deficit of 34.6 per cent. Several parts of the state recorded moderate to heavy rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on July 23, with Quepem receiving the highest rainfall at 110.5 mm. It was followed by Sanguem (83.2 mm), Margao (78.0 mm), Dharbandora (74.0 mm), Ponda (65.8 mm) and Sankhali (43.6 mm). Canacona recorded 39.0 mm, followed by Dabolim (32.0 mm), Pernem (30.2 mm), Mormugao (24.8 mm), Old Goa (21.3 mm), Panjim (20.6 mm) and Mapusa (19.0 mm).

The persistent downpour also caused damage in parts of Sattari, where a jackfruit tree crashed onto the house of Jaideve Gaonkar at Mauxi, causing extensive damage to the property. No injuries were reported. Several trees have also fallen at different locations across Sattari, disrupting normal life and affecting traffic move ment in some areas. Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, particularly in vulnerable areas, as heavy rain and gusty winds are expected to continue until July 25.
