MARGAO: Heavy rains with thunder and lightning was witnessed in various parts of the Salcete Taluka on Tuesday. Even the incident of uprooting of trees was reported in few areas.

Areas namely Verna, Raia, Margao, Fatorda and Colva, besides Curtorim, Navelim and other places witnessed the unseasonal rains. Gusty winds further affected the power supply in many parts.
As informed by the locals from different parts of the taluka, they were in the dark for almost half an hour due to no power supply.
“We have received few calls from the locals informing about the incidents of uprooting of trees and one such is at Colva. However, at the moment no causality has been reported,” informed the officials of Fire and Emergency Services, Margao.
Heavy rains poured down after gusty winds, followed by thundering and lightning. It was around 7.30 in the evening and rains continued to lash till 8 pm. At Benaulim and other coastal villages of Salcete, fishermen were seen rushing back from the sea with their canoes as gusty winds hit the coast.
Power supply in majority of areas of Salcete was disrupted and affected the internet services.
