Heavy showers accompanied by gusty wind and lightning on Sunday evening brought Vasco to a standstill with uprooting of trees, power disruption and a flight diversion.
The showers that lasted nearly 45 minutes commenced at about 3.30 pm, forcing the people to remain indoors.
One flight, which was supposed to land at Dabolim airport, was diverted back to Mumbai.
Airport Director D Pual Manickam informed that a domestic flight from Mumbai was diverted back due to bad weather, otherwise the operation was normal at the airport.
According to Vasco Fire Brigade, three trees uprooted at three different places due to gusty winds and heavy showers.
A tree that fell in Maimollem was cleared by the people before the Fire Brigade could reach the site. A mango tree fell on the changing room of a resort in Hollant-Bogmalo, besides damaging window of a stationary car.
Vasco Fire brigade also cleared an uprooted tree near the Khapreshwar Temple, Headland Sada, Mormugao.
The power supply was disrupted during the heavy showers. However, the power supply was restored in some parts of Vasco.
However, no reports of any casualty were reported.
The unprecedented showers too disrupted sporting activities and cultural programme.
A GFA Professional League match between Salgaocar and Dempo at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, was also called off due to heavy showers, while the Women Festival at Chicalim Panchayat ground was also called off due to heavy showers.
