MARGAO: Special Public Prosecutor Adv Rajiv Gomes has told the media that the police would not spare anyone, howsoever mighty he may be in connection with the Canacona building collapse case.
Asked to respond to the demand made by defence lawyer Adv Anacleto Viegas to interrogate Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, Adv Gomes said the investigating agency would definitely interrogate any person if his role is established with the crime. “Definitely, the police would not spare even the high and the mighty. But the investigating agency should first establish the connection of any person with the crime”, he told the media after today’s proceedings before Special Judge South.
Earlier, Adv Gomes prayed to Special Judge Nutan Sardessai to take judicial notice of the submission made by defence lawyer Adv Anacleto Viegas to investigate the role of Sports Minister and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar in respect of his connivance with the builder and the contractor in the case. “The court may take judicial notice of the submission made by the defence lawyer. Let me make clear that our endeavour is to catch the head as well as the tail”, Adv Gomes told the court.
The Special Public Prosecutor also submitted to the court the license renewals by former Canacona Municipal Chief Pradeep Naik with retrospective effect.
Meanwhile, Monday will be the D-day for the three present and former Canacona Municipal officials in connection with the Canacona building collapse case.
Special Judge, South has reserved orders on the anticipatory bail applications of former Canacona Municipal engineers, Ajay Desai and Ashank Gauncar and arrested CMC Chief Officer and Deputy Collector Prashant Shirodkar on Monday.
